How social media can help employees and employers in workplaces

There is a lot of tacit information that lies untapped within the minds of employees. Social media usage in the company helps to convert tacit information to documented information with the context surrounding it. Context builds the human element into the conversations and the knowledge gained becomes immediately applicable for problem solving.

Further, the successive iteration of ideas can be possible through collaborative technologies and social media usage fosters a collaborative environment. When employees share their problems with a context around it within their project or human resource related areas, other employees who have faced similar challenges can share their perspectives. When such perspectives and ideas in a collaborative environment builds one over the other, it leads to insight and it is incorporated into to the innovation process for the development of new products.

Social media usage in companies is enormously beneficial. Realizing the benefits depends on the execution and implementation of the social media tools as well. To be successful in social media usage, companies need to understand from the employees’ perspective as well.
