Which Countries are the Most Susceptible to Alcoholism?

Many people like to drink: it is a way to relax and become less inhibited around friends, at social gatherings, or simply after work. However, the issue of alcohol abuse is a serious one, and individuals all around the world are suffering from alcoholism as well as other substance use disorders caused by alcohol. Understanding this problem on a global scale is part of how we can begin to make a change for the better.

Certain countries are more in trouble with alcohol abuse than others, including Russia, Moldova, and Hungary. A majority of the countries dealing with more severe alcoholism problems across the board require help, and it is crucial for people to get involved, and provide adequate treatment options. Though the US isn’t on the list of the top ten countries suffering from alcoholism, as a country we do understand the problems this tragic issue can cause, and we need to be educated on how we can help ourselves, each other, and the rest of the world.

Being able to identify the signs of an alcohol use disorder—such as withdrawal symptoms, an increased tolerance for the substance, and drinking during inappropriate times like at work or school—is paramount to helping yourself and your loved ones at home. You can also get involved in the fight to end alcoholism around the world by donating to charities specific to this cause or by writing about your experiences and sharing them online. We should all be aware of the problems alcoholism can cause and become involved in creating real change.
